Customs officials seize gold worth Rs 58.78 lakh at Mangaluru airport

Mangaluru, April 12, 2024: Customs authorities at Mangaluru airport intercepted smuggled gold with a value of Rs 58.78 lakh on April 11.

Upon the arrival of a passenger from Dammam, officials seized 812 grams of gold concealed within the passenger’s body.

A routine metal detector scan alerted officials to the presence of metal in the passenger’s waist area. Upon closer inspection, gold in paste form was found hidden within three spherical objects inside the passenger’s rectum. After a careful extraction process involving heat, 812 grams of pure 24-carat gold were recovered.

The individual involved has been taken into custody and presented before the court for further legal proceedings.
