Customs Preventive Unit seizes 1.35kg gold

Mangaluru, March 1, 2020: Customs Preventive Unit led by Rajesh Pujari, assistant commissioner on Wednesday booked offence cases against four persons at Kundapura and one at Byndoor after they were found in possession of foreign origin gold.

Joannes George, joint commissioner of Customs, Mangaluru on Saturday said the unit recovered total of 1.341kg of gold valued at Rs 56.99 lakh after purification from these persons who were found in possession of crude gold items in various forms including gold in paste form.

Udupi district police at Kundapura and Byndoor based on tip-off received by them that some persons were transporting gold from Calicut to Bhatkal, intercepted some persons at Kundapura and Byndoor and informed the Customs Preventive Unit at Mangaluru, George said.

The unit rushed to the spot and after due inquiry seized the gold from the person. Further investigation on the matter is underway at the Customs headquarters office here, he said.

The Customs Preventive Unit led by assistant commissioner Rajesh Pujari, superintendents Rameshchandra, Raveendra Pai, S Pradeep Kumar, inspector Sandeep M S and other staff including Krishne Gowda, Kishore Shetty and Lingappa rushed to the Kundapur and Byndoor and conducted an inquiry.
