Mangaluru, Dec 26, 2014: Close on the heels of the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) registering as many as 21 complaints regarding cruelty to animals during the Baradi Kambala in violation of the court ruling, the Board is now likely to register several similar complaints in connection with the Mulki Arasu Kambala which was held recently.
Here it is worth mentioning that the Baradi Kambala was the first Kambala to be held after the High Court lifted the ban on Kambala subject to the condition that the animals were not treated with cruelty.
According to Dr Manilal Valliyate, Peta Director for Veterinary Affairs, the information which he received from the inspectors appointed by the AWBI has revealed that there were a minimum of ten cases of violations and that some buffaloes had three thick ropes in their noses instead of one thin rope. He said the exact picture would emerge once the inspectors submit the report on December 26.
