Covid-19 cases rise to 6 in Udupi as one year old child tests positive

Udupi, May 15, 2020:  One-year-old child was tested positive for Covid-19 in Udupi on Friday evening, with this total cases confirmed today rise to 6. After 47 days, five persons of Udupi district who had arrived from Dubai on May 12 have tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday noon bulletin.

Those who tested positive included a 52-year-old man, 31-year-old man, 33-year-old woman, 38-year-old woman, 37-year-old man and a one-year-old child.

A total of 46 passengers from among those who arrived  at Mangaluru International Airport on May 12, were quarantined at a hotel in Udupi district and their throat swab samples sent for  test. The results which  arrived today have revealed six of them have tested positive. All of them would be admitted to the Udupi TMA Pai Covid Hospital, informed Udupi District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr Sudhir Chandra Sooda.

Udupi Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha said that the staff of the quarantine facilities are taking all precautions. Hence, they are not considered as primary contacts. However, they will be tested for COVID-19, on the seventh day of the arrival of the passengers. A total of 1,862 samples were sent for testing and 1,822 are negative and 32 are pending.A total of 4,497 are screened till date as on Friday in the district. Three among the eight infected patients had been discharged, he added.
