Court rejects bail plea of assistant director trapped for graft

Mangaluru, Dec 16, 2016:The arrested  assistant director of factories and boilers H Suresh, raided by the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on November 30 was rejected bail, by the third additional district and sessions court on Dec 15, Thursday.

An ACB team headed by superintendent of police Chennabasavanna S L and comprising DSP Sudheer M Hegde had raided his office at Kottara on the day he was scheduled to be relieved and take up his next posting in Bengaluru.

ACB sources said Pushpanjali Devi, third additional district and session’s court judge rejected the regular bail plea filed by Suresh after Special PP Ravindra Manippady drew attention to the fact that ACB needed to further investigate assets they suspect the official has acquired. The ACB team had recovered Rs 3.74 lakh from Suresh’s possession, which he claimed were money that others had given him for safekeeping, a claim that the persons named by him denied.

Sources said Suresh in his official capacity was responsible for renewing licenses of nearly 1,500-odd industries in both Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district and the going rate for doing so varied from Rs 5,000 to Rs 50,000 per license depending on the category of industry. The licenses come up for renewal during November and December, the sources said. Suresh now has to approach the HC for bail. The official is presently under suspension and in judicial custody.
