The DK DC said that excuses could not be accepted for deaths which are preventable, unless they are supported by documents. Therefore, it is crucial to maintain health records petaining to pregnant women.

He said that the ANMs, lady health visitors, anganwadi centres and primary health centres should work in tandem in conducting health check-ups. The details of health check-ups should be entered in the record and if the pregnant women refuse to undergo health check-up and other tests, they should be given a pink card. The matter should be brought to the notice of the higher officials in writing. The higher officers should take up the issue and persuade pregnant women to undergo check-up, the DC said. The same procedure should be followed while administering vaccines and providing iron tablets, he added.  Noting that there was no follow up on the health of pregnant women, the DK DC said that it was precisely why major problems are diagnosed only in the last stage.

Zilla panchayat CEO P I Srividya, district Health Officer Dr Ramakrishna, RCH officer Dr Sikandar Pasha, Assistant Commissioner (Puttur) Dr Rajendra and District Surgeon Dr Rajeshwari Devi H R were present at the meeting.
