Mangaluru, Dec 9, 2015 : The arrest of one Aboobakker Siddiqui in connection with last year’s Ulaibettu clashes by Mangaluru Rural Circle Inspector Pramod and the Inspector subsequently going on leave with some even alleging he has been suspended owing to political pressure, sparked a protest by personnel of the station who came out in support of their colleague. Even various individuals as well as organisations including Hindu Jagarana Vedike and DYFI, irrespective of their party affiliations joined the protest.
It has been gathered that the man arrested in connection with the clashes in Ulaibettu was wanted in a case of sexual assault on a girl during the clashes.
Protestors later even blocked the Padil-Nanthoor road. After DCP Shantharaju’s efforts to convince them to withdraw the protest failed, Commissioner Murugan arrived and clarified that the circle Inspector was not suspended and that he had gone on leave. But, the protestors were unrelenting and wanted the inspector himself to admit this.
Finally, Circle Inspector Pramod was summoned to the spot and he told the protestors that he was not suspended but was on leave. He also assured to report to duty on December 9, Wednesday.
