Cops nab inter-state gang of temple thieves

Mangaluru Sep 26, 2016: DCIB Police have nabbed five inter-state thieves allegedly involved in a series of thefts in temples across Dakshina Kannada and have recovered gold jewellery worth 12.5 lakhs from them. They were arrested from Thane in Maharashtra,  informed Superintendent of Police Bhushan Borase.

The arrested have been identified as Chandrakanth Poojary (36), a resident of Honnavar, Narasimha Raju (38), a resident of Doddaballapur, Naveen Chandra Baan Singh (21), Vijay Suresh (35) and Vishal (21), a resident of Thane, Maharashtra.

Addressing media persons at SP office today September 26, Monday he said that several temple theft cases where reported in past six  months in Dakshina Kannada district. Following  reliable information, DCIB Police swung into action and nabbed the six thieves, he added.

Silver articles weighing 22 kg and 75 gm of gold ornaments collectively valued at Rs 12.5 lakh have been seized from their possession, said Bhushan Borase.

Accused Chandra Kanth Poojary was involved in various theft cases in Udupi, Mumbai and Karkala, while  Narasimha has around 17 cases registered against him apart from the 13 cases of temple thefts, he added.

The operation was carried out by ASP Vedamurthy, ASP Puttur Rishyanth,   DCIB Inspector Ammanullah, PSI Khader, PSI Rathan Kumar, ASI Sanjeev Purusha, Uday, Iqbal, Tharnath, Laxman and Praveen.
