Cops avert marriage of minor girl at Dharmasthala

Belthangady, July 2, 2013 :  Police intervention averted the marriage of a minor girl hailing from Nuggehalli in Chennarayapatna which was scheduled to be held at  a marriage hall at Dharmasthala on July 1,  Monday.


Minor marriage-1Sources said  the 17 year old girl was supposed to get married to Ranga Shetty (26) from Doddamathighatta of the same taluk in Hassan  district. Incidentally, the bride was the daughter of the groom Ranga  Shetty’s elder sister.


It is said the police and the child welfare officials were aware that a minor’s marriage was to take place on July 1, but were unaware as to where the marriage party had stayed. On July 1, a team of officials led by Belthangady SI Yogish Kumar arrived at the marriage hall early  in the morning and warned the people there that they will have to face legal action if the marriage was  held.

Finally the marriage was cancelled and the persons concerned were summoned to the station to sign an affidavit.
