Cops arrest 9-member gang of Budubudike tribals for hatching theft plans; seize weapons

Mangaluru, May 9, 2015: A nine member gang belonging to the nomadic Budubudike  tribe   have been arrested by the Uppinangady Police on the charges of  hatching plots to resort to  dacoity, rubbery and such other criminal acts. All of them have been produced before the court which has remanded them to judicial custody. Police have seized two machetes, two iron rods, two cell phones, a cash of Rs 8,100 and a Maruti Omni from them.

The eight were trapped by the Uppinangady police near the bye pass road on NH 75 in the town where they had arrived along with lethal weapons. Sources have revealed that the gang had arrived in the town as per the instructions  of Mahesh alias Maada  of Angadihalli in Belur taluk of Hassan district who lives in Uppinangady area.

Apart from Mahesh, Krishnapur resident Devaraja, Ramesh of Alevoor, Venkatesh, Manikanta of Bengaluru, Nagaraj, Manjunatha  of Suratkal, Prakash of Angadihalli and Kaverappa of Arasikere have been arrested.

Police said all the nine remain constantly in touch with each other and hatch plots to commit some crime.

It is learnt all of them were earlier arrested on charges of theft and dacoity  in various police station limits of the district and were  released on bail in the past.

Narsanna community : The Nomadic Budubudike tribals are known as the Narsanna community and are identified by the rattle drums they  use while visiting houses and reading fortunes. But none of those arrested are into their hereditary profession but have made  robbery as their full time business.

Many members of this tribal community can be seen in Seetangoli and Goovetthapaduka of Kasargod, Hagare in Belur taluk of Hassan, Krishnapura, Shiroor and other places.
