Copious rains in DK and Udupi create dangerous calamities

Udupi, July 19, 2015 : Monsoons have become active after a short lull on the west coast.  Intermittent heavy rains and winds lashed Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District July 18.  The clouds were thick throughout the day. With inadequate  of storm water drains, flow of water on the road in several parts of Mangaluru City was heavy and disturbing.

With the caving in of the soil behind the post office in Sullia, the post office building is facing collapse. Slime has caved in on Sampaje road.  The Chelyadka bridge connecting Puttur-Panaje has been inundated following heavy rains in Puttur.


As a result, the vehicles travel via Santyar.  Puttur Taluk has recorded 107.4 mm rainfall on July 18. A tree fell on electric wire and disrupted power supply at Kumbra. The Seetha river is in spate in Hebri region. A tree fell on a road at Malpe Molakalmoor and disrupted the movement of vehicles.  Vehicles passed through Madamakki Kuchhur road and panic gripped people.
