Control room set up to deal with any eventualities in monsoon in Udupi

Reju said on Thursday that 24-hour control rooms should be set up at the offices of the tahsildars and Assistant Commissioner to deal with any eventuality arising from rain-related floods in the district. He was speaking at the preparatory meeting on natural calamities here.


Dr. Reju said the public should be informed about the telephone numbers of all the control rooms. Commissioner of Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) Gokuldas Nayak said the storm-water drains at Gundibail and Kalsanka in Udupi city had been cleared.

A 24-hour control room had been established at the CMC, he said.

Dr. Reju said that there had been erosion of soil in places where electricity poles were installed by the Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (Mescom) on the National Highway No. 17, where road-widening work were on. Hence, the officers of Mescom and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) should conduct a joint inspection, he said.
