Consider service as a responsibility, Amma tells her devotees

Mangaluru, Feb 24, 2017 :  A life full of love and selfless attitude can bring peace and tranquillity, said Matha Amritanandamayi  in her blessings  to the huge gathering that had converged for Amrita Sangama -2017 at the Amrita Vidyalayam grounds in Bolur on February 23, Thursday.

"The children of God are like beautiful flowers which when entwined  become a beautiful garland. Similarly, it is love and faith that brings happiness in the world. Mutual understanding is a great binding force. I have great admiration for Mangaluru," said Amritanandamayi who is popularly known as Amma.

"The world is changing, technology is progressing. Daily new things are materialising. We need to observe all developments closely and choose only those that help us lead a peaceful life. Spiritual thoughts, faith in the Almighty and blessings of elders  gives us the strength to make the right choices," she  explained.

Amma also called upon the masses to develop a spirit of service and consider it as a responsibility.

Sripad Yasso Naik, Union Minister of State for AYUSH who was the chief guest, said  the service activities of Matha Amritanandamayi through her Mutt and various institutions are a role model to the society. Amma is also making a yeoman contribution to the education field, he said.

Justice P Vishwanath Shetty, Karnataka Lokayukta who also graced the occasion said Amma has  made  significant contributions towards mankind and in many ways was doing those works which a government ought to do.

 Sri Mangalamritha Chaitanya, Chief of Mangaluru branch of Amritanandamayi Mutt, Ramanatha Rai, DK District in-charge Minister,  Harinath, Mayor, Capt Ganesh Karnik, MLC, JR Lobo, MLA, J Krishna Palemar, former minister, Mahabaleshwar MS, Chief General Manager of  Karnataka Bank, Vaman Kamath, Dr Jeevaraj Sorake, Madhav Suvarna, Dr Y Sanath Hegde and others were present.

Amma also hugged her innumerous devotees who gathered for the event. Disabled were distributed wheel chairs  and three colour waste bins were distributed under Swachha Bharat. Scholarships were also  distributed to  meritorious students. Pension and Ayush Kits were also distributed.

A scheme of distributing sarees to women under Amritashree Women’s Empowerment Programme was also launched during the function.
