Congress to protest against power problems in state

ivan dsouza oct 16 Mangalore Oct 16, 2011: Ivan D’Souza, the vice president of the district Congress committee (DCC), said that the DCC will organize a protest in front of the DC’s office on Oct 20 against the state government for its failure to supply continuous power supply to its citizens. 


Addressing reporters yesterday, he said that the BJP government, which had made promises of 24-hour power supply when it first came to power, has not kept its promise. Elaborating on the state government’s failure, he said that the state government, which had promised to produce 10,000 MW in Karnataka, but has failed to produce even 1MW of power. He said that the amount of Rs. 6,337 spent on purchasing power in Karnataka since 2006 could have been easily spent on producing 1,500MW power. 


He said that the Congress will stage protests at the ward and booth level. Reacting against the state government’s allegations that the centre is not providing power to the state, he said that the centre is supply its quota of power for the state.  


Criticizing L. K. Advani’s Ratha Yathra against corruption, he said that Advani should have started his yathra from BSY’s house. Terming the Ratha Yathra as another “gimmick” by the BJP, he said that it was a “waste  of time” as the BJP does not have any moral right to hold power in the state.
