Udupi, Dec 30, 2015: UDCC - The Udupi District Congress Committee, has expelled two leaders for campaigning openly for the former Minister K. Jayaprakash Hegde, who had earlier been expelled by the party for contesting as an Independent candidate in the elections to the Legislative Council from the local bodies constituency in Dakshina Kannada-Udupi.
A media release from the UDCC here said that the former president of Brahmavar Block Congress Committee Birti Rajesh Shetty and former treasurer Cherkady Harish Shetty had been expelled for “anti-party activities.”
The UDCC has also recommended to the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) to expel the former president of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat and KPCC member B. Bhujanga Shetty, who filed his nomination as rebel candidate for the Council polls and later withdrew it. But Shetty openly campaigned for Hegde after the latter’s expulsion and participated in press conferences.
Meanwhile, Rajesh Shetty said that he had not been given any notice before his expulsion, while Harish Shetty said that he was not concerned.
