Congress convention to mark Indira Gandhi birth centenary, to be held on Nov 19th

Mangaluru Nov 15, 2016: District in-charge Minister Ramanath Rai informed that, a Congress Convention will be held at Nehru Maidan on November 19th to mark former prime minister Indira Gandhi’s birth centenary year.

Addressing media at Congress office on Tuesday November 15, he said that party workers of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu,  Shivamogga and Uttara Kannada districts will take par in the convention. National Leaders of Congress party including Digvijay Singh, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Mallikarjun Kharge, Chella Kumar, Oscar Fernandes and  Shantaram Naik will take part in his convention.

Indira Gandhi made a significant contribution in improving international relation with neighbouring countries and through her courage and boldness made India win the war against Pakistan. Indira Gandhi also introduced land reform legislation so that land resource could be distributed adequately which was essential for poverty eradication, said Rai.

On November 19th Chief Minister will inaugurate Congress Bhavan at Mallikatte and also unveil the statue of Jawaharlal Nehru at Nehru Maidan, informed Rai.

Many programs including workshop, debates will be organized at Schools and Colleges to create awareness about the programmes introduced by Indira Gandhi, he added.

Chief Whip of Legislative Council Ivan D Souza, MLA JR Lobo, Youth Congress President Mithun Rai, Mayor Harinath and others were present.
