Kasargod, June 4, 2015: A clash that took place between Congress and CPI(M) workers at Mangad in Bekal police station limits on June 2 midnight resulted in tension in the area. Police had to resort to lathi charge and tear gas shells when it almost became difficult to control the mob. The mob went berserk for almost over four hours in the process stoning several vehicles, shops and a madarasa.
Three persons including Bekal ASI Ananthakrishna sustained injuries in the clashes. Two others injured are Sudhaker (28), a CPM worker and Abdul Rahiman (21), a Congress worker. The condition of Rahiman is said to be critical. He is presently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mangaluru.
On June 3, Wednesday CPI(M) though had planned a protest, it had to be withdrawn after police prevented them in order to avert any further untoward incident.
The situation is said to be under control at present. Complaint and counter complaint by the Congress and CPI(M) have been lodged.
