Confidence among farmers being reinforced

Mangaluru, Aug 4, 2015: With an aim to reinforce confidence among farmers and to dissuade them from committing suicides, the government has launched a state-wide campaign, through the department of information and public relations. The campaign, through the medium of street plays and folk songs, moves on to various places in the state to create awareness among the farming community.

In DK district, the campaign was inaugurated by District-incharge minister B Ramanath Rai at Zilla Panchayat premises Aug 3. Speaking at the occasion he said zero interest loans till Rs 3 lakh and three per cent interest loans upto Rs 10 lakh are being provided to farmers by cooperative banks, to prevent them from borrowing loans from private financial firms and money lenders at a high rate of interest .

Minister Rai said CM with his radio speech, has tried to instill confidence among farmers. "Farmers’ suicides in state are being addressed with great concern. Several programmes are being chalked out by the government to encourage the farmers to carry out mixed farming and so on," he added.

Zilla Pachayat president Asha Thimmappa Gowda, Vice president Sathish Kumpala and ZP CEO P I Srividya were present.
