Mangaluru, Jan 3, 2017: Even as Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel on Monday expressed regret over his provocative speech at Konaje on Sunday, the Congress and the Democratic Youth Federation of India filed complaints with the police seeking action against him.

nalin kumar Congress workers, led by Ullal Block Congress president Santosh Shetty, and DYFI activists, led by its Ullal unit secretary Jeevanraj Kuthar, filed complaints with the Konaje police on Monday.

Police Commissioner M. Chandra Sekhar said that the police have taken note of the complaint and also the clarification issued by Mr. Kateel. He said that as accusations made against Mr. Kateel were non-cognisable in nature, the police have made entry of the complaint in the diary of non-cognisable cases. The complainants have to approach court for further action in the matter, Mr. Chandra Sekhar said.

During a protest in Konaje on Sunday to condemn the delay in arresting those involved in the murder of 27-year-old Karthikraj, son of a BJP worker, in October 2016, Mr. Kateel said that the party activists are capable of setting the district on fire if the police failed to arrest the accused in the 10 days.

In a press release here on Monday, Mr. Kateel said that he regretted the use of “some words” during his speech that was done with a lot of pain over the delay in arresting the accused. While emphasising that he did not have any intention to disturbing peace in the region, Mr. Kateel said that he was only reflecting the anguish of the people over the time taken by the police in arresting the accused. “While expressing my anguish, I might have used some words. There is no need to interpret it in a wrong way,” he said.
