Committee to be formed for Smart City project: MLA JR Lobo

Mangaluru Sep 24, 2016: MLA JR Lobo said that, recently union government picked Mangaluru to be a smart city for which committee will be formed by the end of September 30th.

Addressing press at Congress office today September 24 Saturday, he said that committee with 17 directors will be formed in which 7 representatives from Mangaluru City Corporation, 7 representatives from State government and one representative from Union government will be part of this committee.


He also said that, nearly 1,000 crores will be sanctioned for the smart city project in which Union and State government will contribute equal funds. During its first year both Union and State government will sanction Rs. 200 crores each, in second year and third year Rs. 150 crores will be sanctioned in the process.


Smart city project need to implement on quick basis and need to spend all the amount within the time frame or else entire money will be lapsed, said JR Lobo.


Along with Fisheries and Old port we need to develop tourism, information technology and create job opportunities by planning how to bring in investors to the city which will also help in smart city project, he added.


During the process Asian Development Bank (ADB) will sanction 400 crores, AMRUTH will sanction 150 so in period of three years overall 1,700 crore funds will be raised for Smart City project.


He owed gratitude to State government and Union Governmetn for picking Mangaluru to be a Smart city.
