Mangaluru, Jan 29, 2020: Indian Coast Guard Interceptor Boat C-448 was commissioned today on 29 Jan 2020 at New Mangalore by Shri T M Vijay Bhaskar, IAS, Chief Secretary to Government of Karnataka in presence of Commander, Coast Guard Region (West) Inspector General AP Badola and No. 3 Coast Guard District Commander, Karnataka, DIG SS Dasila. Shri AV Ramana, Chairman, NMPT, Ms Sindhu B Rupesh, IAS,        Dy Commissioner D K Dist, Dr Selavamani R, IAS, CEO Zilla Panchayat D K Dist,    Mr K Ajith Hegde, IAS, Commissioner, Mangalore Municipal Corporation, Mr Chethan, IPS, SP, CSP Udupi, Mr D B Mehta, IRS, Chairman CREDAI, Mrs Giselle Mehta, IRS, MD, Allegro Group, Dr Prashant Marla, Medical Director A J Hospital and   Shri Lal Goel, Chief Promoter, Pandit Health Resort Moodbidri were present among others.

C-448 is a high speed Interceptor Boat built by M/s L&T Shipyard. The Ship on joining the Indian Coast Guard fleet at New Mangalore will be deployed extensively for patrolling and rescue operations and other duties as enshrined in Coast Guard Charter to safeguard the maritime interest of India.

The Interceptor boat is 27.80 meters in length and has a displacement of         106 tons. This water jet propelled vessel has an endurance of 500 nautical miles at       20 knots and is capable of doing speed upto 45 knots. The vessel is fitted with latest state of the art navigation and communication equipment designed for high speed interception, close coast patrol, low intensity maritime operations, search and rescue and maritime surveillance. The IB is capable of operating in shallow water as well as deep seas. The quick reaction capability coupled with modern equipment and system provides her the capability to respond to any maritime situation.

C-448 has a crew of 12 personnel and is commanded by Assistant Commandant Apoorva Sharma. The IB will be based at New Mangalore under Administrative and Operational control of the Commander Coast Guard Region (West).
