College bus rams into autorickshaw, woman dead

Moodbidri, Sep 8, 2011 : A woman died when a college bus dashed into an autorickshaw in which she was riding on the evening of September 7 Wednesday.

 

Her husband was the driver of the autorickshaw and their son and daughter were also with them. The father and the two children have sustained severe injuries.

The deceased is Shakuntala (27), the wife of Ravi Bhandary of Anekere in Karkala. Their son Pratish (10) and daughter Prateeka (4) are now taking treatment in a Mangalore-based hospital.

Some of the students who were in the college bus sustained minor injuries.

The bus belongs to an engineering college and was on it way to Karkala from Belman. The family was on its way to a wedding in Venoor. The accident took place at the Beluvai – Kantavara cross. When the bus rammed into the rickshaw, it was pushed for several meters and crushed against a tree. A third vehicle was also damaged.

The Moodubidri police have registered a case.
