Coast Guards rescues 5 Fishermen and towed another boat stranded in sea

MANGALuru: AUG. 25,  2016: Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Shoor and fishing boat Matsya Dweepa were involved in a joint rescue mission of 05 fishermen on Wednesday, 24 Aug 2016 off Netrani Island near Bhatkal.

Fishing boat ’Amma’ belonging to Shri Nagesh Naik of Murudeshwar had sailed for fishing with 05 crew onboard from Honnavar Port on the night of   23 Aug 2016. The boat had a leakage and was sinking. The crew of the boat made several attempts to save the boat from sinking, but could not succeed. Finally, they took the help of other fishing boat Matsya Dweepa and ICGS Shoor for saving their lives.

 

All the 05 fishermen were rescued. The fishermen of the sinking boat ’Amma’ could bring along fishing net with them. A case has been registered at Honnavar Police Station.

In another operation ICGS Shoor successfully towed a stranded fishing boat ’Sowmya’ (Reg No. KA 03 MM 3587) with 08 crew to Malpe. The boat had ventured for fishing on 19 Aug 16 and was stranded for 02 days at a distance of 54 Kms from Malpe due to machinery failure. ICGS Shoor towed the boat safely to Malpe despite rough sea conditions.   

Deputy Inspector General KR Suresh, TM, the Commander Coast Guard Karnataka stated that life of every fisherman as well as mariner is precious and ICG Ships and Aircraft will undertake search and rescue missions despite challenges from inclement weather conditions and rough seas. The Commander also urged the fishing community to keep the aspects of safety and security in mind. All the fishing boats should have life saving, communication equipment, ration and emergency repair kits.
