Coast Guard tows FB Vishwas braving the rough seas

Mangaluru, Aug 16, 2018: Information was received at Coast Guard Operations Centre at its Headquarters of Karnataka at Panambur district administrations of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada regarding Fishing Boat Vishwas Reg No. IND-KA-02-MM-4418 with nine crew onboard adrift 40 NM off Surathkaldue to engine failure on 13 Aug 2018.
   

 

 

 

 

Immediately Indian Coast Guard Ship Rajdoot was diverted operating in area for security patrol view security run-up for Independence Day. Indian Coast Guard Ship Kasturba Gandhi based at New Mangalore was also kept standby at short notice to augment the SAR efforts for the FB in distress.


Rajdoot on arrival to position of distress FB provided logistic support to the boat on 14 Aug 2018. Boat engine was beyond repairs at that moment and needed to be towed to nearest harbour. Due to involvement of Rajdoot on security patrol Kasturba Gandhi was pressed into action on 14 Aug 2018 from New Mangalore harbour.  While braving rough sea conditions under extreme conditions the Kasturba Gandhi developed technical snag on steering system of the ship.
Accordingly, Kasturba was directed to enter NMPT after providing logistic support to FB Vishwas. Subsequently Coast Guard Ship Rajdoot was directed to render assistance to FB on 15 Aug 2018. The FB was then safely towed to NMPT by the ship under very to very rough sea conditions PM 15 Aug 2018 and handed over the FB Vishwas to owner.

Reeling under the unprecedented rains and rough seas condition Coast Guard ships and Ops Centre of Coast Guard District Headquarters of Karnataka in a co-ordinated efforts has been successfully able to save 43 precious lives since 12 Aug 2018, namely FB Laxmi Janardhana crew 08 off Bhatkal, FB Chitramoola off Malpe 06 Crew, FB Vishwas off Surathkal Crew 09, FB Zaibaman off Talapady Crew 10 and FB Sadan off Kasaragod Crew 10.
