Coast Guard invites citizen volunteers for International Coastal Cleanup

Mangaluru, September 13, 2018: Indian Coast Guard is inviting citizens to join in as volunteers for International Coastal Cleanup drive of Ocean Conservancy on Saturday, 15 September which is being organized as part of the 33rd Annual International Coastal Cleanup (ICC), the world’s largest, single -day volunteer effort on behalf of the ocean.

Headquarters, No. 3 Coast Guard District Karnataka based at Panambur, Mangalore is one of the organizations volunteering for the programme and its personnel will be deployed at different beaches along the state’s coastline for cleaning up. The objective of the drive is to pick the waste and make our beaches trash free. Citizens volunteers can choose any beach and undertake clean up.

Debris and ocean plastic problem is one of the biggest threats facing the health of our ocean and beautiful beaches today. However it’s also one of the most preventable. All across the globe, it’s ordinary people who can be the change to fight back against the marine debris epidemic for our ocean’s future. “No matter how busy you are, please throng to beautiful beaches all along the coast of Karnataka to  help Coast Guard make sure our beaches and coastlines are as close as they can be to trash-free,” said a communiqué from DIG SS Dasila, TM, Commander of Coast Guard Karnataka.

This weekend, to be precise on *15 September 2018*  we all have the chance to prove just how dedicated we are to tackling ocean plastic.
