Coast Guard conducts Blood donation camp at Panambur Headquarters

Mangaluru, Jan 05, 2018: Indian Coast Guard Karnataka organised a blood donation camp in coordination with AJ Hospital and other stake-holders of coastal security at Panambur Headquarters on 05 January 2018.

The Blood Donation Camp was overwhelmingly responded by the local populace. The atmosphere was full of energy and the participants were seen enthusiastic waiting for their turn to donate the blood for the noble cause. Apart from Coast Guard Officers, men and women including civilian staff, the Camp was attended by members of Coast Guard Wives Welfare Association (CGWWA - a self-help group managed by wives of Coast Guard personnel), Army, State Bank of India, NCC cadets and college students.

 Surg Lt Aswathy Sundaram, District Medical Officer, utilised the occasion to spread awareness on benefits of blood donation.

Sh. Laxmish Rai K, Chief Operations Officer and Dr. Aravind & Dr. Shalini, Blood Bank Officers of AJ Hospital led their team with smiling faces and cooperated with Coast Guard staff in a highly dignified and professional manner.

Deputy Inspector General SS Dasila, TM, the Commander, Coast Guard Karnataka led his team from front in donating the blood that charged the entire Camp and other donors followed the suit. Colonel Rajmannar, Army Recruitment Officer, Colonel Amit Ashri, NCC, Sh. Shiyas, Manager, SBI Panambur were amongst the donors.

Speaking on the occasion, DIG SS Dasila, TM, the Commander, Coast Guard Karnataka lauded the efforts of the AJ Hospital in joining hands with the Indian Coast Guard and donors from the various walks of life.

DIG Dasila emphasised that Coast Guard, true to its motto “Vayam Rakshamah / We Protect” is playing a saviour’s role not only at high seas and making our coasts safer for seafarers, but also extending to the ashore social activities like organising blood donation camps, Coastal Security Week, Beach Cleaning (as a part of ‘Swatch Sagar Abhiyan’), plantation of trees, community Interaction Programmes for the fisherfolk etc.

The blood donation camp was a part of the 41st Indian Coast Guard Raising Day being celebrated on 01 Feb 2018, which includes Coastal Security Week in all coastal Districts of Karnataka, drawing and painting competitions for school children, presentations on Coast Guard role to College students and Cycle Rally for the awareness on coastal security apparatus and safety thereon.

A visit to Coast Guard Hoverport was also conducted for the AJ Hospital staff and the donors.
