Coast Guard Relief Planes from Mangalore were first to land in Calicut!

Mangaluru, Aug 18, 2018 : Indian Coast Guard’s aircraft from Mangalore became the first to land in Calicut carrying relief materials for the flood victims. Yesterday Indian Coast Guard has announced that it was making available two aircraft and two capital ships at Mangalore for the dispatch of relief material to Kerala.

Their initiative evoked good response from citizens of Mangalore and the local social organizations and helped in mobilizing lot of relief materials. Contributions from public and social organizations should reach Coast Guard Headquarters near Panambur Beach. Urgently needed food items include Rice, Dal, Sugar and Atta. The collected materials will be forwarded to different destinations in the flood affected areas for distribution.  The collection and ferrying of relief materials by Coast Guard will continue indefinitely until situation normalizes.

“I appreciate the efforts of Mangalorean’s. Long Live the smile on faces of people of Mangalore,” said Deputy Inspector-General S. S. Dasila, the Commandant of the Coast Guard’s Mangalore Station.


Its two twin turboprop Dornier aircraft CG785 and CG753made three sorties on Saturday ferrying relief material to Kochi and Calicut. CG753 left for Kochi at 12:45 a.m. with 650 kg. This was followed by CG 785 which undertook two sorties with payloads of 580 kg and 700 kg respectively to Calicut.

ICGS Sankalp, a capital ship, will be at New Mangalore Port on Sunday morning at 07:30 a.m. and will depart for Kochi after collecting more 100 tons of relief material, according to sources from Indian Coast Guard.
