“There is no question of destabilising the coalition government in the state. The government will complete its tenure and Congress is committed to maintaining its ties with JD(S),” he said.

He criticised the BJP saying that it has been stooping low as it cannot stay away from power. The Opposition party has been constantly trying to destabilise the government. However, it will not succeed, he added.

‘Minister disrespected’

Dinesh ridiculed the way Union Defence Minister Nirmala Seetharaman treated Minister Sa Ra Mahesh. It is condemnable to speak against a minister of the state from where she has been elected to the Rajya Sabha. She arrived late in Kodagu and went on to disrespect an elected member of the state, he charged.

The Central government has not responded to the request made by the state government to provide more funds to Kodagu.

Even though there are MPs from BJP in Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru-Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Shivamogga, they have not been placing any demand before the Central government, he said.

The elected representatives from BJP should mount pressure on the Central government to release more funds, said Dinesh.

MP Shobha Karandlaje is busy clicking photos of her distributing the relief materials sent by others, to flood victims. The MP has been working for publicity, he added.

Badruddin remembered:  Nowadays, people expect power as soon as they step into politics. But, the real situation is totally different, said the KPCC President.

He was speaking at the commemoration of Congress leader Muhammed Badruddin, organised by Mangaluru South Block Congress Committee and Mangaluru City Block Congress committees at Shanti Nilaya in Balmatta on Saturday.

Some people want to become the office-bearers of the party, soon after entering as party workers. After some time, they demand ticket to contest elections. After winning elections, they seek more powers, he said and pointed out that the workers who work hard to build the party are more important. Muhammed Badruddin was such a party worker, he added.

Senior Congress leaders:  K S Muhammed Masood and Prabhakar Shriyan were felicitated on the occasion.

Active workers Pushpavathi, Ismail, Manmohan and Jabbar were presented with Sevak Sadhak award. Four workers were awarded posthumously.

Former MLA J R Lobo, District Congress Committee President K Harish Kumar and MLC Ivan D’Souza were present among others
