Singling out inordinate delays in depositing the amount at the co-operative bank towards loan waivers by the government, he said there is a need to pass a resolution to place a demand before the government, regarding the same. Inaugurating the programme, SCDCC Bank chairman M N Rajendra Kumar said that Dakshina Kannada laid a strong foundation for co-operative movement in the state. Rao, an advocate, had created awareness among the rural population regarding the cooperative principles moving from village to village in a bullock cart, at a time when hardly any transport facilities existed, he said.

Touching on the problems faced by the cooperative banks, he said the co-operative societies are not able to provide loan waivers to the availers immediately as the government does not deposit the funds immediately after the announcement of waiver. Similar is the case with the provision of 0% loans to self help groups, he said.

Kumar felt for a need to decrease the interest rates so that the loan getters are benefited. The SCDCC Bank has already taken steps towards cashless transactions by making available POS facility at its branches.   Rupay cards have been distributed to account holders. He pointed out that co-operative banks are not competing with nationalised banks, but complimenting them, he added.

DK District Co-operative Union president Harish Acharya presided over the programme. DK District Co-operative Societies registrar B K Salim, SCDCC Bank vice president Sundar Gowda Icchila and CEO Nagaprasad were present.
