Closure of Shiradi Ghat leads to traffic logjam in Charmady on day one

Belthangady, Jan 03, 2015: The traffic diversion following the closure of the Shiradi Ghat stretch of road from Gundia to Sakleshpur   from January 2, Friday, has resulted in utter  chaos right on day one. As feared Charmadi Ghat road was blocked for hours together on the very first day with several people in buses and private vehicles forced to spend the night in the midst of the Ghat.

As per the decision taken by the administration only KSRTC buses and some other light vehicles are allowed to travel via Charmady Ghat since Friday. But following increased traffic on the narrow Charmady Ghat road where two vehicles cannot proceed at a time in opposite directions, the road was blocked. Long queue of vehicles upto 30 kms long was seen on either side and a few handful of police personnel form Belthangady police station tried their level best to clear the block.  To add to it the haste of some motorists further aggravated the situation.

Meanwhile, DC AB Ibrahim has directed the KSRTC authorities to operate buses on Uppinangady-Nelyady-Shiradi Gundia  stretch and Uppinangady-Maani-BC Road-Mangaluru stretch as commuters on the Uppinangady-BC Road stretch are affected due to the traffic diversion for KSRTC buses.
