In September, the sole teacher recently took a transfer to his hometown Mysuru. "We reach the school on time, organize the prayer, meals, physical training and all the usual school activities. All my friends help me. There are around 150 families here in Kela which comes under Someshwara taluk and this is the only primary school for us. We cannot afford to close the school," said Ashitha.

Seethara Shetty, BEO, Kundapur said, "Under the Nali Kali programme of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA), we promote multi-grade teaching. Students from classes 1 to 3 in government schools are taught together in a single room. This makes students to be together and support each other. Most teachers appointed here are outsiders and when they get a chance to apply for a transfer, they prefer their hometown. We can convince them to stay for a month or two, not more than that. Now, we give preference to locals. We also prefer old students of this school or people associated with the school."
