Udupi, July 1,2016 : The Udupi City Municipal Council Meeting held here on June 30, Thursday witnessed heated exchange of words among members over the issue of problems pertaining to street lights, drainages and water supply.
Vasanti Shetty, Councillor from Ambalpady complained that steps were not being taken to solve civic woes of her ward despite several appeals.
Many councillors opposed the Janahitha scheme of the state government and alleged that the authorities have failed to monitor the grievance redressal mechanism.
Responding to the complaints, CMC Commissioner Manjunathayya said all grievances have to be addressed through the Janahitha scheme itself.
He also stated that rain harvesting was compulsory for new layouts and that No Objection Certificates will not be issued in their absence.
The meeting also observed a minute’s silence and prayed for the souls of the school children who met a tragic end in the Trasi road accident.
