Civic honour for Bishop, Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza in M’luru

Mangaluru, June 23, 2016: At the gala Civic reception accorded to him at Town Hall on the afternoon of June 21, Tuesday,    by the MCC, Mangaluru City Corporation, on the occasion of his platinum jubilee (75 yrs), the Mangaluru Bishop  Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza said that it was a real honour for him to serve the people ; he gave a yeoman call to the people of various communities to maintain brotherhood and to live in harmony.

He then  pointed out that the Mangaluru Diocese has been focusing on the education of financially lesser privileged children. He has been paying attention to ensure that education is not commercialised. The Bishop said that it was only because of sheer grace of the Almighty and love of the people that he was able to serve the society and the Lord for the last 50 years. People from all religions have been giving their cooperation to him in carrying out developmental social endeavours.

In his key felicitation address, Nitte University Pro Chancellor Dr M Shantharam Shetty said that Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza has been lending his yeoman service in the field of education with a special focus on education of children from deprived classes. Dr Shetty also recalled the contributions of Catholic community in the fields of health, banking, religion and education.

Swami Jithakamananda, Ramakrishna Mutt (Mangaluru) president, said that the Mangaluru Bishop has been serving humanity for the last 50 years. The Bishop has achieved both spiritual and social progress, through his deeds, he said and commended the works of the Bishop in the field of education. One fine example of Bishop D’Souza’s concern for the poor was his efforts to subsidise education of poor students of the mutt at the Cascia School.

Bengaluru Archbishop Rev Dr Bernard Moras delivering his message said that the Mangaluru Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza has responded to the aspirations of people and has set a noble example in the field of social service.

Mangaluru Jumma Masjid Khathib Sadaqatul Faizi stated that the Bishop has been striving continuously to build social harmony in the region.
