City to have multi-level car parking soon says Mayor

Mangaluru, Aug 28, 2017: Speaking at a meet convened to discuss on traffic woes in Mangaluru on August 28, Monday, she said that Detailed Project Report (DRP) will be ready within a month and the work is likely to commence soon. The corporation had entrusted the project to the Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA). Since no headway is made, the council withdrew the project from it.

Mobile canteens: The mayor also directed the police to initiate strict action against mobile canteens operating in Bejai, by encroaching the road and footpath. TheMCC has not issued any license for mobile canteens.

DCP (Law and Order) Hanumantharaya promised to take up a joint drive by the officials of the MCC and the police. The mayor also urged the police to initiate action against unauthorised parking of vehicles on Balmatta Road, Vaslane and Pumpwell.

Corporator Asha D’Silva said that the Kankanady-Pumpwell Bypass Road should be repaired. Paver-finish work should be taken up on the stretch.

The unauthorised parking of the vehicles and lorries on Pumpwell has been hampering the flow of traffic on the highway. The Kankanady Old Post Office road is also in deplorable condition, which needs to be repaired.

The traffic police promised to take strict action against unauthorised parking of the vehicles. With the NHAI work in progress at Padil, the traffic congestion is common. Hence, the mayor urged the MCC commissioner to write a letter to the NHAI to accelerate the work.

Corporator Ashok D K said that Kadri-Kambala road is prone to accident. If the humps are laid on the road joining Kadri-Kambala Road, then the movement of vehicles would be slow and accident can be avoided.
He also said that unauthorised autorickshaw parking in front of Kadri Temple Dwara is also hampering the movement of vehicles.

To which, the traffic police said there is a need to revise autorickshaw stands in the city, by taking up a joint inspection by the police, the MCC and RTO officials.

Route permit violation  : Corporators Abdul Rauf, Shailaja, and Rathikala said that a few buses are violating the route permits. The contract carriage buses are entering the city without any check. There is a need to initiate action against such buses, they said.

Fish lorries : Corporators demanded steps against lorries carrying fish that discharge waste water on roads. The vehicles start from Bunder and go on discharging water as they pass through Jeppu, Marnamikatte, Mahakalipadpu before joining the NH.

This had led to roads becoming slippery, skidding of vehicles. It was difficult for the road users to bear with the foul smell too. The police promised to take steps against such lorries.
