Mangaluru, Mar 16, 2017 :As the inflow of water into the Netravathi river has stopped, the Mangaluru City Corporation has decided to curb the water supply to the city from March 20 onwards in such a way that in total there would be no water supply for 48 hours during a week’s time in the MCC limits.
Informing this to reporters here on March 16, Thursday, Mayor Kavitha Sanil said the new rule would continue until May end or till the onset of monsoons.
The Mayor stated that there would be no water supply in MCC limits every Monday from 6 am till Tuesday 6 pm from March 20 onwards.
Water supply will be normal from every Tuesday 6 pm to Thursday 6 pm, while there will be no water supply from Thursday 6 pm to Friday 6 am. Water supply will be restored from Friday 6 am till Monday 6am.
The Mayor has requested the public to co-operate as this measure was essential to ensure that the city did not face acute water scarcity as during last summer.
She informed that the water level in Thumbay dam which was at present at 4.15 meters was sufficient for 20 days while the water level at AMR dam was at 6.25 meters and was enough for 40 days.
