City’s Pumpwell flyover should be open in March 2018

Mangaluru, June 18, 2017: Speaking at a review meeting chaired by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel recently, NHAI assistant engineer Ajith, said work on flyover at Pumpwell as a part of the fourlaning of the road from Talapady to Kundapur will be completed by March 2018.

Assistant engineer Ajith, said that the work had been delayed. "Works on eight girders is pending, while the work on flyover at Thokkottu will be completed by December. Works on the approach road is in progress. Works on the service roads too is pending at Mukka and Mulki. The service road at B C Road, however, has been approved," he said.

MP Kateel directed the NHAI officials to remove the encroachments on the government land abutting highways in the district.

When Horticulture Department deputy director H R Yogish said that debris has been dumped near Kadri Park compound wall, the MP directed the NHAI officials to clear it. He also directed the Mangaluru City Corporation Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer to ensure that the debris are not dumped by the highway.

Toilet construction :  MCC commissioner Nazeer said that under the Swaccha Bharath Mission, the MCC had a target to construct 438 toilets, of which 394 are completed. Rejuvenation of drains will be taken up under the AMRUT scheme. In addition, Rs 2 crore has been sanctioned for development of four parks - Kadri, Kunjathbail, Hosabettu and Krishnapura.

The MP directed the MCC commissioner to work on widening the road leading to Mangaluru Junction Railway Station.

The Mysuru railway division official said that seating arrangements at the Subrahmanya Railway Station has been approved and will be completed by December. The Subrahmanya platform improvement work will be taken up at a cost of Rs 1 crore. In addition, Railways will plant 20,000 saplings in its jurisdiction.

The MP directed the panchayat development officers (PDOs) to reach the target under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme this year. Kolnadu Gram Panchayat has spent a maximum of Rs 1 crore under the scheme while Hirebandadi Gram Panchayat has spent Rs 96 lakh under the scheme. Railings should be constructed for the vented dam, he said.

Zilla Panchayat chief executive officer Dr M R Ravi said that installation of railings on one side of the vented dam is a part of the project. Technical and social profiles of the vented dams are also being prepared. In addition, the MGNREGS arranges for the maintenance of the vented dams. The dam users’ association has been formed at village-level and guidelines have been issued for the maintenance of the vented dams.

Agency pulled up :
The MP took to task the agency that has been entrusted with the work of imparting skill training to unemployed youth under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana for failing to reach the target.  "The target to impart training was 1,100 youth. However, only 440 persons have been trained. Even the placement for the trained youth is not up to the mark," said the MP.  Zilla Panchayat CEO directed the agency to impart need-based training.
