City officials make efforts to enroll bedridden in DK for Aadhar

Mangaluru, March 11, 2018: Aadhaar is now the most vital identity for many daily services,  a big number being unable to enroll for various reasons, the Dakshina Kannada district administration is making due efforts to reach out and bring them the services.

The administration has deployed mobile Aadhaar enrolment units to reach out to them, and so far has enrolled 11,261 bedridden persons, including the elderly, and 3,162 homeless children staying in various organisations. It has also conducted a special drive for transgenders, registering 45 of them.

“When village accountants visited households to seed Aadhaar numbers for government pension schemes, they realised that many did not have one at all. They were unable to visit enrolment centres because of their age and/or ailment. This prompted us to reach out to them using mobile kits,” said Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dakshina Kannada.

The administration then created a database of such persons in each village and sent out personnel with mobile enrolment units, and 95% of pensioners have been covered so far, AC  Kumar told this correspondent.  Besides this, whenever the administration learns about the inability of a person to visit an enrollment centre, mobile units are sent to their doorsteps. At present, the district has 23 permanent enrollment centres and a majority visit them for correction of information and so on.
