The surrounding areas of Central Market, Car Street and other places have been drenched in a riot of colours with vendors busy trading a variety of colourful flowers and vegetables on Sunday.

Ganesh Chaturthi comes in the month of Bhaardapada, beginning on the fourth day of the waxing moon. Although celebrated throughout India, it is more popular in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and South India.

People set up colorfully decorated stages and dress the statue of Lord Ganesh grandly with colorful garments and glittering ornaments.

According to popular legends, Lord Ganesha comes to earth on this day to be with his devotees for ten days and clear all obstacles in their lives. Devotees pamper him by preparing and serving his favorite sweets.
