City cyclists in ‘I ride with India’ movement

Mangaluru, Sep 7, 2015 ;  Cycling enthusiasts in Mangaluru joined the nation-wide “I ride with India” cycling movement on Sept 6, by cycling a 20 km circuit.Rain just ahead of the starting of the event did not deter the spirit of the cycling buffs who commenced the expedition from Jyoti Cycles and Fitness at Kadri here.

They covered Bendur, Fr. Muller Road, Mangaladevi Temple, Pandeshwar, State Bank, Jyothi Circle, PVS, Kottara and City Corporation.

Ganesh Nayak, proprietor of Jyoti Cycles, who organised the event in Mangaluru, said the event is aimed at promoting cycling as a healthy means for transport.  More than 20 cyclists, including members of the Mangalore Cycling Club, participated in the event.

It is noted that  cyclists in Mangaluru are undergoing a one-month Trek Mangaluru Challenge from September 1 in which the cyclist who clocks the  distance with maximum elevation is set to get cash prize.

Cyclists’ performance is evaluated only through cycling app — ’Strava’.   Enthusiasts such as Kishan Bangera, Shyamprasad,   Menezes etc., are in a tough competition by cycling at least 100 km a  day.
