City cops crack mystery behind MESCOM engineer murder case; arrest duo

Mangalore, Oct 6, 2014:  Mangalore City Police have succeeded in busting the mystery behind the MESCOM Engineer Jagadish Rao murder case with the arrest of two persons. The police have also arrested five other criminals wanted in several theft and dacoity cases. It has been gathered that the duo arrested in the MESCOM engineer murder case were also wanted in another case of murder of an elderly woman at Alake in the city.

This was informed to reporters here on October 6, Monday by City Police Commissioner R Hithendra.  He said the accused duo namely Siddappa alias Siddu (22) of Shirasangi in Savadatti taluk of Belgaum district and Murtuza Khadri alias Rafique (27) of  Nittoli in Davangere were  taken into custody  by the Urva police while the former  were lurking suspiciously and that the two admitted during interrogations that they were responsible for the MESCOM engineer murder which took place on September 21 as well as the murder of Susheela (75) who was also killed in a similar fashion by slitting her throat at Alake in Urva police station limits on  August 1.

The Commissioner informed that Siddappa who had entered Jagadish Rao’s house, and slit his throat when he resisted the moves to burgle the house. He said that the assailants had made it a practice to kill anyone who resisted their attempt to burgle.

It is learnt, the same duo had barged into Susheela’s house at Alake and had killed her when she resisted their attempts and had later escaped in a car parked outside the house. The car was later traced near the Honda showroom at Bejai. The Commissioner stated that apart from two murders, the duo was wanted in several theft cases.

 Police have also seized a gold chain, revolver, 16 rounds of bullets and a cash of Rs 5000 from them. The police are yet to recover the gold which they have pledged in various finance firms, the Commissioner said.

Five arrested on dacoity charges: Urva police have also arrested five persons wanted in dacoity cases, during their  patrolling near Maroli Jodukatte. The five were  trapped when police inspected two vehicles which were parked suspiciously in the area.

Those arrested are  Mohammad Azeem alias Dilwala (21) of Farangipete, Ahmed Sadiq alias Sadiq (19) of Krishnapura-Katipalla, Nisar Hussain alias Nichu (23) of Katipalla, Hasanabba alias Naushad (23) of Katipalla and Shashidhar U (30) of Kundapur.

Police have seized a Ritz car (KA 19 MB 5607), black Alto Car (KA 19 P 9160), five machetes, two packets of chilly powder, four mobile phones and a cash of Rs 12,750.

It is learnt, the accused used to hire cars and then  loot lorry drivers on the Highway. They were wanted in four dacoity cases in Urva police station limits, one more case at Udane near Uppinangady and another at Shirady.

The arrests were made under the leadership of ACP Tilakchandra and  DCPs KV Jagadish and N Vishnuvardhan under the guidance of Police Commissioner R Hithendra.
