Mangaluru, Aug 29, 2015 : Dakshina Kannada district is always projected as as a leader in education, hospitality, transport and industry.
However, routine facilities have been facing a severe neglect without a reasonable bus terminal for private city and service buses in this cultured district headquarters — Mangaluru.
Service buses were shifted from Hampanakatte and have been operating from the State Bank and fish market area that is a vertual slum without any facility or safety for passengers.
The main city bus station is located on the road that has no shelter nor any infrastructure in the state State Bank area. In fact the thousands of people, specially students; along with sick and aged persons are put to grave danger and hardships day and night.
A proposal to build a state-of-the-art bus terminal near Pumpwell, is being dangled in front of the public who remain meek like donkeys, the proposal is yet to take off with the authorities concerned offering least priority for the project. The KSRTC, on the other hand, has a terminal at Bejai. The State bank area is in badly deteriorated condition and no temporary maintenance has been carried out for years. It is a disgrace even though crores of rupees are said to be sanctioned but no betterment visible.
