City Police Commissioner inspects auto pre-paid counter at Mangaluru Central

Mangaluru, May 7, 2017: In the backdrop of complaints that some autorickshaw drivers were charging over and above the prescribed fares from passengers at railway stations, Mangaluru City Police Commissioner M Chandra Sekhar along with other police officials visited the Central Railway Station and inspected the functioning of the pre-paid auto counter there.

The Commissioner said , during his phone-in programme he has been receiving several complaints of harassment by autorickshaw drivers by charging excess fares.

"All measures have been taken to ensure passengers are not harassed. The auto fare rates are exhibited on the board. Two police personnel will be on duty at the pre-paid counter  A patrol vehicle would also be sent  at 3 am when the train arrives every day, he said.

The Commissioner said a few autorickshaw drivers were charging excess from passengers. Public who are inconvenienced can lodge police complaint.  Those found guilty will be booked under Motor Vehicles Act and measures like cancellation of licence will be taken, he said. There should be no inconvenience to people from other places who arrive in the city, he said.

DCP(Traffic)  Sanjeev Patil, ACP Tilakchandra, Pandeshwar Station Inspector Belliappa, RTO  G S Hegde, Commercial Manager of Mangaluru Central Kishan Kumar and others were present.
