jnnurm bussesMangaluru, Sept 25, 2016: The new city smart bus services started by the KSRTC, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation are seen as a best alternative and have gained a good response.

Of the the 18 new routes introduced by the KSRTC under JNNURM, Route No. 19S, between State Bank and Vamanjoor, has been the highest revenue earner and most popular.

The earning per kilometre for this service is about Rs. 33, said KSRTC’s Divisional Controller Vivekanand Hegde.

It is not just the issue of bringing in revenue; the service has been of much help for residents of areas around Airport Road as well as the Mangaluru-Moodbidri Highway as the service connects these two major corridors.

Since there are very few private bus services between Bondel Church and Pachchanadi, Route No. 19S is offering succour to the residents of the locality, said  a resident.

The corporation has also deployed one bus with multiple trips on this route and is keen on increasing the number of buses.

Besides the Vamanjoor service, KSRTC’s new service to Moodushedde-Pilikula and Kunjathabail, the two other major emerging suburbs of Mangaluru off the Moodbidri Highway and Airport Road respectively, too have been bringing good revenue. Before the advent of KSRTC into these areas, private buses were running with overflowing travellers.   However, services to Katipalla and Kaikamba via MRPL are running under loss.

Public have expressed that the KSRTC is being sidelined and intimidated by the private bus crews. There is no spot or slot at the State Bank Terminal area for the new KSRTC buses, they are given second rate treatment by the private operators. The buses should have better destination boards on the side.
