Citizens asked to release strips of land for vital needs

Udupi, May 15, 2017: It is reported that Mayor Kavitha Sanil said the work on footpaths, drains and junctions will be taken up at a cost of Rs 121 crore in the city. She requested citizens to give up their partial land for the development work and avail of the benefit of the Transferable Development Rights scheme (TDR), which offers the owner development rights double the size of the acquired property. The tenders for footpaths and drains in front of St Agnes College, City Hospital, Mallikatte, have been invited. If citizens have any problem in giving up their land, they can directly approach Mayor to get the problem solved.

The MCC begun work to remove the silt from 96 drains. The silt from small drains will be cleared by the Anthony Waste Management Cell Pvt Ltd. An exclusive helpline – 0824-222-306 – has been set up to receive complaints and gangs provided to each ward to take up emergency work during monsoon, including night hours, she said.

The mayor said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has promised release of grants for compensation for acquisition of land that would be submerged if water in Thumbe vented dam is raised to 7 metres. A sum of Rs 130 crore would be required for the compensation. A proposal will be sent to the state government after getting approval in the MCC Council.

The MCC will exercise its powers under the Karnataka Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 1981 against illegal banners and hoardings.  Yet very many hoardings of the MCC too can still be seen all over the city.
