Mangaluru, June 29,2017 : The second phone-in programme of Mayor Kavitha Sanil held on June 27, Tuesday received a total of 30 calls drawing the attention of the Mayor to various grievances.
Speaking to reporters on the occasion, the Mayor said an information centre furnishing details about all facilities available on behalf of the Mangaluru City Corporation would start functioning in a week’s time. Stating that there was a demand for such a centre from a caller during her previous phone-in, the Mayor said there was a delay in view of getting an informative handbook ready. Steps would be taken to run the Centre after approval for the same at the next Council meeting, she said.
The proposed information centre will operate from the ground floor of the MCC building, The handbook giving details of the various services offered by MCC would be available for Rs 10, she said.
During the phone- in, a resident from Kadri Kambla complained about a drainage problem near the Chandrika Layout. The mayor assured to look into the problem and added that officials would be instructed to take necessary action.
A resident named Madhukar complained that the main road leading to Yeyyadi from Barebail Global Court has not been concretised. While some inner roads here have been concretised the main road has not even been asphalted, he said and complained that the drains are filled with silt causing inconvenience during rains.
Responding to the same, the Mayor assured to take up the asphaltation works after monsoon. The side drains would be desilted soon, she assured.
A senior citizen complained to the Mayor that the road from Jyothi to Bunts Hostel which was concretised nearly four years ago still does not have footpaths. The Mayor said tender has been invited for the same and the works would be taken up shortly.
A citizen complained to the Mayor regarding the use of ear deafening horns by buses while halting at the bus stop near Ambedkar Circle close by the women’s college. The Mayor promised to bring the matter to the notice of the traffic police.
To another complaint of frequent traffic snarls from PVS Junction upto Bunts Hostel and that vehicles are parked in no-parking areas, the Mayor said the same would be discussed at the traffic meet.
Another caller complained about the menace of beggars near Lalbagh, A resident even suggested that the MCC should give priority to rain water harvesting and recharging of abandoned borewells., Mayor assured to consider the suggestion.
Deputy Mayor Rajaneesh Kapikad, MCC Chief Whip Shashidhar Hegde, Standing Committee Chairperson Sabitha Misqith and Commissioner Mohammad Nazeer were also present.
