Mangaluru, Dec 25, 2017: Christmas prayers were the highlight in all city churches on Christmas eve Sunday December 24. The world is celebrating the joy and sentiments of the Birth of Christ 2017 years ago symbolically. The focus is on peace and happiness for all and specially good will to the needy and have nots. The joy and merriment of the birth of the Babe Jesus could be visibly seen and felt.  All roads were leading to churches and celebrations, people in their Christmas attire and happiness written large of their faces indeed was a sight that brought glee to the city.

The decorations and bright lights helped to change the out look here.  There was a spirit of good will behind the celebrations with concern and care for the less fortunate and most showed their concern in different special ways and all helped to spread the good will, peace and harmony of the season

Most churches held the Christmas Mass around 8 pm with an hour of Carol singing at churches added to the spirit.  Bishop of Mangaluru diocese Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza celebrated the  Holy Mass at Rosario Cathedral. Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu, Fr J B Crasta, Fr Rocky Fernandes, Fr Vincent D’Souza, Fr Anil Fernandes, Fr Vincent Dsouza were the co-celebrants. Vice-president C J Simon and secretary Elizabeth Roche were present among the huge congregation. The turn out was more than festive.

Mangalore Vicar General, Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu, in his sermon, exhorted all  to mark Christmas as birth of Christ in a spiritual way that lifts the spirit, mind and body  meaningfully for he said,  "Jesus was born a humble human Babe yet HE  was son of God. He chose to remain human all his life. His birth in a stable is a lesson to people. Unless we follow   Jesus in simplicity, Christmas is not what it means," he said.

Bishop Dr Aloysius D’Souza, said that in spite of all modern progress and development God is never to be forgotten; because out bodily ends on earth one day and it definitely continues in another form before God. The scriptures of Christ will remain eternally and we are ruled by it as Christians and it is for us to go forward whatever the situation. 

The Churches were well lit and flow of people to see the lights and cribs was according to tradition of Mangaluru for the last 450 years that this celebration has been done in this region.
