Children to get better deal is Govt aim, according to Udupi minister

Udupi, July 04, 2017: Speaking after inaugurating a new building of the Juvenile Justice Board and Government Observation Home on the State Home premises, and Open Air Theatre and Children’s Corner constructed near the District Bala Bhavan, Udupi.


ministerPramod Madhwaraj, Minister of State for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports, has said that the State government was committed to providing better facilities to children.


Minister Madhwaraj said that children had to be provided good facilities in State Home for Children. It was essential that the children were provided a positive atmosphere, where they emerged as good citizens of the country. He recalled that the Women and Child Welfare Ministry was carved out of the Ministry of Social Welfare in the 1970s. The State Home here was the oldest in the State. It was constructed during the period when his mother, Manorama Madhwaraj, was appointed the first Minister of Women and Child Welfare in the State by the then Chief Minister late D. Devaraj Urs in 1974, Mr. Madhwaraj said.

T. Venkatesh Naik, Principal District and Sessions Judge, said that nutritious food was being provided to the children in the State Home for Children. He had checked it. The standard of education in the Home too was good. It was essential to create conditions for the all-round development of children, he said.

Lata, member-secretary of District Legal Services Authority, Vivekananda S. Pandit, president of Juvenile Justice Board, Dinakar Babu, president of the Zilla Panchayat, Sheela K. Shetty, vice-president, Meenakshi Bannanje, president of Udupi City Municipal Council, Gitanjali Suvarna, Shilpa Suvarna, zilla panchayat members, were present.
