Children must take part in extracurricular activities - Prathibha Karanji

Udupi / Kaup, Dec 16, 2015 : Speaking after inaugurating the three-day State-level Prathibha Karanji programme at Vidyanikethan Public School here on Dec 15, Tuesday, Udupi Deputy Commissioner Dr R Vishal said children should take part in extracurricular activities, which would come in handy at the time of distress.

Te DC also said the students should always indulge in extracurricular activities that help them for the exposure of talents. The government would release 10 lakh additionally as the earlier released amount of Rs 50 lakh is insufficient to manage the affairs, he added.

Public Instruction Department Director Philomena Lobo (High School division) said the talent among children is spontaneous. Explaining the meaning and purpose of ’Prathibha Karanji’, she said the students, along with the academic learning, should also continue taking part in the extracurricular activities and develop the hobbies.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Priyanka Mary Francis said the children should always strive for excellence in whatever work they get into.

"Learning should not be limited to only the academic pursuit. The world itself is classroom which enables the learning skills in various ways. Besides, the children should also be aware of the personal hygiene and waste management. The villages once known for the cleanliness and hygienic conditions are now becoming the dumpyard for waste. The children should create awareness over hygiene and take up initiatives to keep the surroundings clean. The children should be the harbingers of change," she added.

Child development :  Presiding over the programme, Vidyanikethana Educational Institutions President K P Acharya said that children are like flowers and they should be always blossomed and smiling.

As many as 2,000 students from 34 educational districts of Karnataka are taking part in the talent competitions, including 24 individual competitions and 6 group competitions. The stage set up for the programme can accommodate 2,000 people at a time. Meritorious students from Kannada medium in each educational district were felicitated.

Quite interestingly, the stage programme did not last for even 30 minutes, including less than 10 minutes for speeches, as the deputy commissioner insisted that it is a children’s programme and children should enjoy.

Prior to the stage programme, a colourful procession was taken out from Dandatheertha school premises, which was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Dr R Vishal.
