Child labourer rescued from posh flat

Mangalore, Nov 27: Childline and the Departments of Labour, Primary, and Secondary Education in a joint raid on certain apartments on Sturrock Road,Attavar in the city,rescued a 10-year-old boy who worked as a domestic help.



The boy was rescued from a flat owned by entrepreneur Abdul Rehman. He hails from Davanagere and was employed to do household chores.

When the officials were interrogating this child and his employers, they received a tip that a minor girl was employed as a domestic help in the same building. The girl was found in the flat of a doctor couple, Murali Krishna and Lakshmi Manjira. 


 

 

The 10-year-old informed officials that 2 more boys from his village were working in other flats. Accordingly, the officials found two boys, one of whom claimed to be above 18, while the other boy was below 15.
Currently, the 10-year-old is in the custody of the District Child Welfare Committee. The others were left behind on the grounds that they were above 14 years.
