Farmers in Lakkavalli village are using big cut-outs of the BJP star campaigners like PM Modi, Amit Shah and Yedyurappa as scarecrows in their fields.

PM Modi had addressed a massive rally in Chikmagalur district on May 9 that drew huge crowd from across the district. The same day the city was decorated with huge cut-outs of BJP leaders to welcome the Prime Minister.

However, as the elections are now over, the real purpose of these cut-outs is out in the open. Farmers have given up the conventional scarecrow model of a clay pot on a stick and have now resorted to use Modi’s cut-outs.

A farmer said, "Earlier we used the conventional old style scarecrow model, now we are using cut-outs. Birds eating our paddy crops used to be a headache for us. Now it worked fine, as other farmers have adopted the same method too."
